Art Therapy Time
The first Friday of each month, our art therapist, Carrie Osborn provides our Oceanside Stroke Recovery members with therapeutic art sessions.
Carrie is a local acrylic artist and counsellor, who has used the medium of art in therapeutic ways within this community for over 20 years in both mental health and social service agencies. Carrie started her art therapy training while working in a medical hospital, providing therapeutic support for children who experienced medical trauma. She continued her therapy training with the Canadian Play Therapy association, and has integrated various expressive therapies into her work including drama therapy, sandtray therapy and puppetry. More recently, in addition to her private practise, Carrie has begun to provide therapeutic art for seniors, working with those who struggle with dementia and other physical issues using art to stimulate creativity and brain health. Her Qualicum Beach studio, Paint Life Laughing, is part art studio and part therapy studio, it is a wonderful place where art can become a powerful voice for healing and for change.
